Not all of us are 100% green, even we at Green Behavior are guilty of that. We try, but as we all know it takes a lot of effort and time at first. Researching all those ingredients and chemicals in our products and foods can be overwhelming, but finally our life has become a little bit easier. Environmental Working Group has put together their 2012 Guide to Healthy Cleaning. This guide has changed how we live our day to day life and hope it does the same for you.
You can search for products you already own or can browse the top products (which were given an A or B score) in their different categories. EWG has a scoring system of A to F on over 2,000 products. They even score each individual chemical in each product. Now realize this is a new database, some information is missing on certain products but they’ll still get a B. Even Seventh Generation (who only scored a C+ total) is working with EWG to get their products re-graded, once they gave them their complete ingredient disclosure So don’t write off a product just yet, check back in a few months and see if it’s been updated.
EWG’s Guide to Healthy Cleaning gives you practical solutions to protect yourself and your family from everyday exposures to potentially harmful chemicals. U.S. law allows manufacturers of cleaning products to use almost any ingredient they wish, including known carcinogens and substances that can harm fetal and infant development.
Here on Green Behavior we will feature a green cleaning product every week that was given an A or B score on EWG’s guide. So I advise all of you to go get all of your cleaning products and see how your products stack up! Here’s my ‘not so green’ cleaning products.
