Posted on June 17, 2015June 11, 2015 By Kristin No Comments on Go Green: Tips for Exterior Concrete

The decorative concrete can help you improve the aesthetics of your home as well as extend its durability. This is a very popular building material which is famous for its effectiveness and sustainability. What you probably don’t know, however, is that you can use it to limit the negative impact of your real estate property on the environment. You can have an eco-friendly home without spending a lot of money, if you just try some of the ideas we will present to you in this article.

The concrete is without a doubt one of the most popular building materials. It can be used for decorating and different other purposes, including the transformation of your home into an eco-friendly property. By doing this you will not only take care of the environment, but will also make your home stronger and more comfortable for you and your family. You won’t have to spend a lot of money for the renovation of your home because the concrete is not an expensive building material. Before you start working on different projects, however, make sure that you check in several specialised stores in order to find the best offer. Here is how you can transform you place into an eco-friendly one with a couple of easy ideas:

  • Concrete tiles on the roof – Covering your roof with precast concrete tiles is a great decision. This type of tiles will last for a longer period of time than the other models. Deciding to invest in something like this will be very beneficial for your real estate property for sure. Except that you won’t have to worry about the safety of your home, you will also make the place more comfortable as the concrete tiles can reduce the cooling and heating costs. You can find them in different styles like shake, barrel and others.
  • Concrete walls – Another way you can reduce the heating and cooling costs of your family is by investing in concrete walls. You will be able to find four concrete wall systems and choose the one which is most suitable for your home and for your budget. If you choose the insulating concrete forms (ICFs), you will provide your real estate property with reliable insulation which will help you reduce the electricity bills.
  • Special wall finish – By using a cement-based wall finish, you can completely change the look of your home’s exterior. This kind is known to be more resistant to some of the most popular problems like mold, rot and others. Another thing you could try is to cover the walls of your home with stampable concrete overlay. The cement-based wall finish doesn’t endanger the environment and at the same time protects the walls of your home better than any other material.
  • Concrete driveway – Now is the time to think about your driveway. If you are looking for an eco-friendly solution, then you can select pervious concrete. This special material allows to the rainwater to percolate into the ground and reach the trees and other plants. This will definitely solve a lot of your problems and you won’t have to worry any more about the green areas of your home.

One of the best things about the concrete is that it can be reused. Instead of throwing away the old concrete from your patio or driveway, you can keep it and use it again for something else. If you ask around, you will certainly find a lot of companies which collect such kind of materials as well. No matter what renovations you decide to make in your property, don’t forget to clean the area afterwards. You know how messy the home improvements can be, so a cleaning will be definitely a good idea.
